Porec

Porec

Overview

Introduction

Though it is the largest resort on the Istria Peninsula, Porec is best known for its Roman and early Christian ruins. The well-preserved Euphrasian Basilica (sixth century) in the center of the old town contains some of Europe's finest Byzantine mosaics, sculpture and architecture.

The Porec Museum complements a historic tour of the country, offering visitors a little old-world education to accompany their explorations. It is housed in a Gothic structure and showcases Roman and early Christian archaeology.

Lying 120 mi/195 km southeast of Zagreb, Porec is an easy day trip from Rovinj.
