Saiwa Swamp National Park

Saiwa Swamp National Park

Overview

Introduction

The smallest of Kenya's national parks, Saiwa Swamp is less than 1 sq mi/2 sq km. Located 225 mi/360 km northwest of Nairobi, this park was created specifically to protect the rare sitatunga antelope, a shy and unusual animal that lives in swamps and, when threatened, will submerge itself beneath the water to hide. It is also home to monkeys, otters, and small antelopes such as bushbuck and duiker. There are few visitor facilities (only a campsite)—not even a road.

If you want to see the park, you'll be going on foot. Hiring a local guide is highly recommended and not that expensive.
