Rosario

Rosario

Overview

Introduction

There's not much to see in Rosario, an urban area that competes with Cordoba as the "second city" of Argentina. It's basically an industrial and export center 180 mi/290 km northwest of Buenos Aires with a few art-deco buildings and the overblown Monumento Nacional a la Bandera—a monument to the country's flag that includes a 240-ft/73-m tower and the crypt of the flag's designer, Jose Manuel Belgrano, a hero who fought for Argentina's independence and for whom many Argentine streets are named.

The monastery of San Carlos, however, is close by and worth a visit, plus the nightlife and cultural opportunities keep some visitors sticking around. The provincial capital, Santa Fe, located 100 mi/160 km from Rosario, has an interesting history museum and the San Francisco Church.
