Flatwoods

Flatwoods

Overview

Introduction

Flatwoods, 71 mi/114 km northeast of Charleston, offers something for everyone. Home to Sutton Lake and Bee Run Recreation Area, it features hiking, swimming, boating and horseback riding. Visitors also can enjoy the Mountain Lakes Amphitheater that presents country and bluegrass performances every weekend. Flatwoods Factory Outlet Mall, home to many different stores, is just across the four-lane from Granny's Antique Warehouse.

Nearby Sutton is a worthwhile side trip from Flatwoods just to have a meal at Cafe Cimino, one of West Virginia's best restaurants. Or, catch a performance at Landmark Studio for the Arts.

Weston, just north of Flatwoods, is filled with Civil War history, and researchers should not miss the Central West Virginia Genealogy and History Library nearby. Each June sees a gold robbery re-enactment, and Civil War re-enactments are held annually at Carnifex Ferry and Bulltown as well.
