Tasek Merimbun and Longhouses

Tasek Merimbun and Longhouses

Overview

Introduction

Deep inside Tutong District is Tasek Meribun, Brunei's largest lake and home to lots of wildlife, including wild monkeys and rare birds.

There are also several jungle river cruises, which last one or two days. Some take visitors to a Dayak tribal longhouse—typically, the building is more than 600 ft/183 m long and houses the entire village. The Brunei variety is no more or less interesting than the ones in the Malaysian areas of the island, so if you've seen one there, it's not worth making a special effort to see one in Brunei.

You can also find some very nice, relatively unpopulated beaches, such as Telisai Beach. And if you're headed to Kota Batu, stop at the ancient tomb of Sultan Bolkiah along the way.
