Overview

Introduction

This colorful valley region has five ksour (fortified towns): Ghardaia, Beni Izguen, Melika, Guerrara and El Atteuf. The villages offer a glimpse of traditional life with their pyramid-shaped mosques, small souks (markets) and winding streets. If this appeals to you, spend several days in the area; otherwise, overnight in Ghardaia. 300 mi/480 km south of Algiers.
