Ulcinj

Ulcinj

Overview

Introduction

A popular tourist resort in Montenegro, Ulcinj has an 8-mi-/13-km-long sand beach. Located 60 mi/100 km by road south of Podgorica, it is close to Ada Bojana, a river island known for nude bathing.

Although most visitors to Ulcinj spend time sunning and swimming, don't neglect the ancient quarter of the city: It has a ruined Turkish fortress, several mosques and other old buildings. It is also close to the largest olive-tree forest in Europe (located between Ulcinj and Bar).

The town's proximity to Albania gives it a distinctly eastern air, with streets of Turkish-style houses and some street signs in Albanian.
