Kordai

Kordai

Overview

Introduction

The small border town of Kordai, 135 mi/220 km southwest of Almaty on the main highway (Silk Road) to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, is a good base for exploring the nearby Chumysh Hills (approximately 3 mi/5 km from the center of town). The hills harbor a collection of 2,000-year-old cave paintings. Although Kordai has no real tourist infrastructure, it does have several inexpensive hotels that are reasonably comfortable.
