Esch sur Sure, Luxembourg, located about 33 mi/53 km northwest of Luxembourg City, is a typical Ardennes market town located on a bend of the scenic Sure River. It has a wonderful "lost" quality—you'll feel like you're in another era.
Castle ruins overlook the isolated village, which is entered via one tunnel and exited via a second. Old textile and candle factories have been restored and are again producing traditional products. The visitors center for the Upper Sure Nature Reserve is also located there.
The nearby Lake of the Upper Sure is a popular recreation area.
