Laglio

Laglio

Overview

Introduction

Sleepy Laglio is not the prettiest town on Lake Como, but it's become a meeting place for the jetset.

The culprit is Hollywood actor George Clooney, who bought Villa L'Oleandra (allegedly for US$10 million) in 2000. The walled villa dates from the 18th century and has about 25 rooms, its own jetty and is definitely off-limits for tourists. Do not loiter around the entrance—there is a law against it issued by the town. Rather, have a peek at the villa from the small harbor of Laglio. It may be a little consolation for mere mortals that the lake water of the villa's private gravel beach is actually quite dirty and rated not suitable for swimming.

Clooney sightings in Laglio are quite rare. He's said to drive through the area on a motorbike in the company of a bodyguard. (So watch out for those two Harleys.) http://www.comune.laglio.co.it.
