Kyle Recreational Park

Kyle Recreational Park

Overview

Introduction

Kyle Recreational Park surrounds Lake Mutirikwe, a man-made lake and Zimbabwe's third-largest. The varied landscape includes rocky beaches, sheer granite boulders and balancing rocks, and patches of thick woodland. It is home to giraffe, impala, warthog, kudu and white rhino, among other game. The lake's dam, on the southern shore, is impressive, and was constructed in 1960 on the confluence of the Mutirikwe and Mshangashi rivers to provide water to the farming regions further south. Not far from it is an interesting San rock painting of a hunting scene, but you'll need the help of a local guide to find it. The dam and the rock painting can be seen on the same day as a visit to the nearby Great Zimbabwe ruins. There are also some accommodations and a campsite along the lakeshore. The park is 150 mi/250 km south of Harare.
