Katse Dam

Katse Dam

Overview

Introduction

One of five dams created by the Lesotho Highlands Water Project, the vast Katse Dam and its resevoir dominate Lesotho's highlands. At the dam is a visitors center, and guided tours are conducted along the dam wall. The real highlight, however, is getting there: The road from Holtse is mostly above 9,800 ft/3,000 m, and there are terrific mountain views.

The heath-covered plateaus of the Bokong Nature Reserve straddle the main road, and the reserve's visitors center is perched on a lip of a cliff face.
