Overview

Introduction

Rungsted, Denmark, a harbor town 15 mi/25 km north of Copenhagen, is the location of Rungstedlund, the estate of author Karen Blixen. Under the pen name Isak Dinesen, she wrote a number of tales and a well-known autobiography of her years in Kenya, Out of Africa. Her 400-year-old house contains a museum (the Karen Blixen Museet) with manuscripts and mementos. The estate, located between Copenhagen and Helsingor, includes a bird sanctuary and gardens.
