Ningaloo Reef

Ningaloo Reef

Overview

Introduction

Ningaloo Reef is on Australia's west coast. The reef is accessible from both Exmouth and Coral Bay, about halfway between Perth and Broome. One of only a very few coral reefs in the world to form on the western side of a continent (ocean currents favor east-side formation), Ningaloo is famous for the annual migration of whale sharks April-July. This is one of the few places in the world where you can swim with these gentle giants of the sea. Manta rays also are spotted year-round and, unlike the Great Barrier, this reef lies only yards/meters from the beach.
