Tadrart Akakus

Tadrart Akakus

Overview

Introduction

Thanks to thousands of prehistoric rock paintings and carvings, this national park in the remote corner of southwestern Libya is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. A four-wheel-drive vehicle and local guide are required for the rough terrain; you can usually join a small escorted group leaving from Ghat. You will need at least three days or more to adequately see the sites in the park. Ghat, which is the gateway to the park, is 805 mi/1,340 km southwest of Tripoli.
