Dura Europos

Dura Europos

Overview

Introduction

Discoveries at the Greco-Roman city of Dura Europos, 210 mi/340 km southeast of Aleppo, have provided many clues for understanding Jewish and early-Christian art. Although many of the finds are on display in the National Museum in Damascus, the Louvre in Paris and Yale University in the U.S., you can still appreciate the scale of the walled and gated city.

You can also see the sites of a synagogue, a chapel and several temples, as well as a citadel, palace, khans (rest houses) and baths.
