Laguna de la Restinga

Laguna de la Restinga

Overview

Introduction

This national park lies on the isthmus that connects the eastern and western portions of the island. Canvas-roofed motorboats (for up to nine passengers) take visitors through the maze of mangroves—home to oysters, starfish and exotic birds, including scarlet ibises. Visitors have the option of three outings: a 30-minute ride without beach stop; a 30-minute ride with beach stop; or a 60-minute ride with or without the beach. With the beach stop, the boatman drops you off and returns to pick you up at the hour you indicate. The long, wide arc of the beach (covered with finely pulverized fossils rather than sand) has restrooms, food kiosks, souvenir stands, chair rentals and shade awning rentals. Daily 7:30 am-5 pm. Closed 25 December and 1 January. Free. The park's embarkation pier is about a 40-minute drive west of Porlamar.
