Lorient

Lorient

Overview

Introduction

On the north coast, you'll find St. Barthelemy's first settlement, the picturesque village of Lorient. Visit the Eglise de Lorient, a church built of island-quarried stone that was hauled to the town by boat, where women cut it to size with files. Inside, conch shells serve as holy-water basins.

While you're in Lorient, duck into Ligne St. Barth Cosmetics, whose products are based on the local roucou seed. Local Indians used the seed to protect themselves from the sun, salt and insects. http://www.lignestbarth.com.
