La Tigra National Park

La Tigra National Park

Overview

Introduction

La Tigra, the first national park in Honduras (it protects Tegucigalpa's water supply), is set in a tropical cloud forest 15 mi/25 km northwest of the capital. La Tigra makes a nice outing for city residents, but visitors will find more interesting parks elsewhere in the country.

Although abundant wildlife (including more than 200 species of birds) live there, the only wildlife most will likely see is a skinny dog living at El Rosario, a ghost town abandoned in 1954 when its gold and silver reserves were used up.
