Gouyave

Gouyave

Overview

Introduction

Called Charlotte Town by locals, Gouyave is in the parish of St. John's on the western coast of Grenada. This old French Creole village is the most popular place to watch the boat races that are part of the Fisherman's Birthday Celebration held every June.

For an inside look at the spice industry, take a tour of the Grenada Nutmeg Cooperative Association, the largest nutmeg receiving station on the island. Tours are offered Monday-Friday. Dougaldston Spice Estate, a nutmeg and clove plantation, also offers tours: It's located southeast of the village (http://www.grenadaexplorer.com/tip/dougladston). Palmiste Beach is nearby.
