Overview

Introduction

Another Black Hills-area attraction, 60 mi/100 km southwest of Rapid City, Jewel Cave National Monument features a cavern studded with sparkling calcite crystal formations. Jewel Cave is among the longest caves in the world, with more than 140 mi/225 km of mapped passageways. Most visitors take the walking tour, but hardier types can try more difficult spelunking excursions (reservations required).
