Postojna Caves

Postojna Caves

Overview

Introduction

The Postojna Caves, Slovenia, are located in the Karst region, 30 mi/50 km south of Ljubljana. These impressive grottoes make up one of the largest cave systems in the world. The 15-mi-/20-km-long caves are filled with impressive rock formations, halls, stalagmites and stalactites. The tour, which lasts about an hour, is made via an electric train.

Also on the grounds are the Jama Hotel, a restaurant and the Modrijan's Mill complex where you can sample smoked ham, cheeses and local wine. Nearby are Pivka Cave and the medieval Predjama Castle, which is impressively perched halfway up a cliff. http://www.turizem-kras.si.
