Introduction

The people of Nui form the only Micronesian community in Polynesian Tuvalu. This was the first island to be seen by Europeans (some Spaniards sailed past in 1568). The 11 small islands around Nui's lagoon have lovely palm-fringed beaches. 160 mi/255 km northwest of Funafuti.
