Nanumanga Island

Nanumanga Island

Overview

Introduction

Nanumaga, a small island skirted by a lovely coral reef, is a very difficult place for boats to land and, consequently, isn't visited very often. That's a shame, because it's such a lovely island. If you plan to go, read the 19th-century book by Louis Becke, who lived in the main village of Tonga for a year. Though it was written 100 years ago, it gives great insight into life on the island. 265 mi/425 km northwest of Funafuti.
