Overview

Introduction

County Antrim, about 15 mi/25 km northwest of Belfast, holds some of Northern Ireland's most beguiling attractions. Among its draws are the Giant's Causeway and the 90-ft-/30-m-tall round tower in Antrim Town, the most perfectly preserved structure of its kind in all of Ireland. The northeastern coast offers a wonderful drive from Larne to Bushmills; if time allows, make a detour through some of the famous Nine Glens of Antrim. Once you arrive in Bushmills, tour the Old Bushmills Distillery (http://www.bushmills.com), the oldest in the world. There's free Irish whiskey at the end of the tour. The Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, northwest of Ballycastle, lies along this route—the 80-ft/24-m drop to the water is particularly unsettling on a windy day. If you are near Ballycastle on the last Monday or Tuesday of August, stop by the Ould Lammas Fair. http://www.countyantrim.com.
