Matapa Chasm

Overview

Introduction

A beautiful chasm some 50 ft/15 m deep and 50 ft/15 m wide, Matapa offers swimming in a protected mix of fresh and salt water. Another preferred bathing spot for the Niuean royalty, the chasm is an ideal spot for a day trip. On our last visit, we were treated to the sight of young islanders diving from the cliffs into the water below. The chasm is not far from the Talava Arches. 8 mi/13 km north of Alofi.
