Hohe Tauern Range

Hohe Tauern Range

Overview

Introduction

Hohe Tauern National Park is located in Austria's most spectacularly beautiful region (summer or winter), the Hohe Tauern Range of the Alps.

You can see it by taking one of the country's most exciting highways—the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse, which runs south from the town of Zell am See through the park and to Lienz. (The highway is open May to mid-September.) The hairpin turns will make you slow down and take in the majestic scenery, which includes Austria's highest peak, Grossglockner (12,455 ft/3,795 m).

Hohe Tauern National Park is also home to the Pasterze glacier, and the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs Hohe Tourist Center features an information office and an observation area.
