Overview

Introduction

This mountain village, made up of distinctive round Afar huts, is a major stop on the Addis Ababa-Djibouti rail line. The principal attraction of the village is the large central market. Ali Sabieh also has a basic hotel and a good cafe near the railway station. The highway between Ali Sabieh and the capital passes two impressive desert plains: Grand Barra and Petit Barra. At the eastern edge of Grand Barra there is a land-sailing center where you can sail the endless flats. 50 mi/80 km southwest of Djibouti City.
