Overview

Introduction

The Cirque de Mafate is located in one of the most remote and beautiful areas of Reunion. It is not accessible by road. With six trails to follow, the basin is a beautiful place for hiking, and detailed hiking guidebooks (in French) and maps for the area are available on Reunion. If you're not a hiker, Maido is a good vantage point from which to take in a view of Mafate, and tour operators make it possible to see it all from the air. 8 mi/13 km south of St. Denis.
