Introduction

This inland village (pop. 19,474) has a peace memorial marking the end of the Japanese occupation. The memorial is in the caves that served as a command center during the war. A celebration occurs there on 21 July to commemorate the liberation. A monument of praying hands in the memorial park acknowledges today's peaceful relations between the peoples of Guam, the U.S. and Japan. 12 mi/20 km northeast of Hagatna.
