Filadelfia

Filadelfia

Overview

Introduction

This town serves as a base for visiting the thorny, marshy western side of Paraguay and as the entrance to the inhospitable Gran Chaco region. Most visitors go on prearranged trips. There's not a tremendous amount to do there, but it's interesting to see how the region differs from the rest of the country. The town is the center for a large colony of Mennonite farmers from Germany, Russia and Canada. The most common language in Filadelfia is German. 290 mi/466 km northwest of Asuncion.
