Saul

Saul

Overview

Introduction

This small but very friendly town, only a 45-minute flight from Cayenne (120 mi/195 km), feels like a frontier trading post. Saul is recommended only for those who have little or no time constraints, but we enjoyed our one-day stay. While there, you can see an interesting forest retreat about 4 mi/6 km outside of town. Called the Eaux Claires, it was built in the middle of the tropical rain forest by a French family. It will appeal to those who want to see and explore some of the last virgin rain forest left on our planet—and who are willing to rough it a bit for the experience. Guests sleep in hammocks in a dormitory-style room, but the food is deliciously French. Adventurous travelers will appreciate the sights and sounds of the area.
