Overview

Introduction

An ancient Islamic center of learning, Zabid is the birthplace of algebra. We don't suggest an overnight there, but be sure to see the Al Ashair mosque and some of the 85 other mosques, walk the old, narrow streets and visit the 19th-century Nasr castle. 100 mi/160 km southeast of Sana'a.
