Ithra

Ithra

Overview

Introduction

This oasis town is located in the black volcanic desert of northwestern Saudi Arabia, about 30 mi/48 km from the Jordanian border in an area known as Qurrayat al Milh. Ithra merits an hour-long visit if you are in the area.

The town's main attraction is the two-story ruin of a Nabataean Palace, which dates from the first century BC. Nearby, in Ugaylah, is an old Rwallah tribal fort.

These areas are 1,115 mi/1,795 km northwest of Riyadh and can be reached by car or by flying into Turayf or Al Hadithah.
