Ahmadi

Ahmadi

Overview

Introduction

Ahmadi lies inland several miles/kilometers from the sea. It's best known as the seat of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, and huge oil storage facilities are at each end of town. The Oil Display Center gives a good overview of the industry, including the efforts by 27 teams from 10 countries to put out the fires set by the retreating Iraqis at more than 700 oil wells in late February 1991. The Center is open Saturday-Wednesday 7 am-3 pm and Thursday 9 am-noon. Sights in town also include a very small zoo in the public gardens and the landscaped streets. The dockyards at Mina al-Ahmadi are the primary port of the country. 20 mi/35 km south of Kuwait City.
