Laugharne

Laugharne

Overview

Introduction

Located in a predominantly Welsh-speaking area, Laugharne (the name rhymes with barn) is the last home and resting place of poet and playwright Dylan Thomas.

His home, a former boathouse, is a wonderful museum. The poet's tattered old furniture is left as it was, and visitors are invited to listen to recordings of Thomas reciting his own poems.

To get to the museum, ask for directions to Dylan Walk, a path along the estuary of the River Taf—the stroll will put you in the perfect mood to hear his work. His grave, marked by a simple white wooden cross, is in the village cemetery. Laugharne is 34 mi/55 km northwest of Swansea.
