Mirebalais

Overview

Introduction

While there is nothing of note in Mirebalais itself, nearby Saut d'Eau is the site of a beautiful waterfall that is the destination of a mid July pilgrimage for Haitians (the alleged presence of water spirits inspires fantastic voodoo ceremonies). A jeep and driver/guide are necessary to make the three-hour trip from Port-au-Prince to Mirebalais. Visitors can also go to Saut d'Eau by escorted tour. 22 mi/35 km northeast of Port-au-Prince.
