Nzerekore

Nzerekore

Overview

Introduction

Nzerekore (pop. 291,000) is the capital of the forested Guinea region near the Nimba mountains where Guinea, Liberia and the Ivory Coast meet. Take a domestic flight there unless you have two days to spend going overland. The city has a surprising number of restaurants and bars, which have sprung up in recent years to cater to the large number of relief workers in the area. Although there isn't much to do in town, it's a great base for trips into the mountains or to visit the chimpanzee research center at Bossou. 355 mi/570 km southeast of Conakry.
