Mingun

Mingun

Overview

Introduction

One of the four ancient cities surrounding Mandalay, Mingun, Myanmar, lies a relatively short boat ride up the Ayeyarwady River. We enjoyed the pleasant river scenery along the way, as well as the sights of Mingun itself: the base of the huge Mingun Pagoda and several smaller monuments constructed in the 18th and 19th centuries. On display among the ruins is the Mingun Bell, reportedly the largest (uncracked) bell in the world. Mingun is just 7 mi/10 km north of Mandalay.
