Overview

Introduction

Located 320 mi/515 km south of Beijing, Qufu is the hometown of Confucius (he was born there in 551 BC).

Qufu has several major historic attractions. It's possible to visit the Residence of the Descendants of Confucius, also known as the Kong Family Mansion. There's also the beautiful Confucius Temple and the huge Kong family cemetery containing the sage's tomb. Collectively known as San Kong, or "The Three Confucian Sites," they have qualified as UNESCO-protected heritage sites since 1994.

Near Qufu is Taishan, another mountain pilgrimage site.
