The spa town of Geres, with its many hotels, is a good base for visiting the park. It's surrounded by lovely, pine-clad slopes. Soajo is an ancient village with a Celtic pillory and fantastic espigueiros (small granite silos built on mushroomlike stilts). Lindoso is a similar town, but boasts a medieval castle.
