Snowshoe Mountain, West Virginia, is a prime ski resort in the Allegheny Mountains. The resort, located in the bowl-shaped convergence of Cheat and Back Allegheny mountains, is home to the second highest point in the state—Cheat Mountain—at more than 4,800 ft/nearly 1,500 m.
Unlike many ski resort towns, the Village at Snowshoe is located at the summit rather than at the base of the mountain. While Snowshoe is still best known for its winter activities, today the resort is also home to great mountain biking, golf, numerous conventions and an abundance of summer outdoor activities.
Snowshoe Mountain averages approximately 180 in/458 cm of snowfall annually and boasts 60 slopes and trails, more than half of which are designated as difficult, which makes Snowshoe a great ski destination for accomplished skiers.
Snowshoe also provides plenty of activities for non-skiiers. The Tuscan spa offers a variety of treatments in a relaxing setting, and there's a heated pool, shopping, restaurants and bars. A day care center entertains the kids while parents are skiing.
