Sausalito

Sausalito

Overview

Introduction

Sausalito hugs the waterfront just inside the Golden Gate, offering stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Angel Island, Alcatraz and San Francisco itself. Sausalito also has the San Francisco Bay Model, a hydraulic scale model of the bay housed in an old warehouse on the waterfront, and operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; the California Marine Mammal Center, a center that rescues and rehabilitates injured or orphaned marine mammals; and the Bay Area Discovery Museum—a multiplex of childrens' activities and exhibits. Sausalito is full of boutiques, art galleries and restaurants, but short on parking.

If you're staying in San Francisco, you can catch the ferry at Pier 41 or at San Francisco's Ferry Building on the Embarcadero for a gorgeous half-hour trip across the bay to Sausalito. Phone 415-331-7262. http://www.sausalito.org.
