Part of North Carolina's Crystal Coast, Morehead City sits on a peninsula bordered by the inland waterway to the south, the Newport River to the east and Calico Creek to the north. It has the best of both worlds, with shopping and dining in the downtown section and boating and fishing right off the marina. The town is one of the state's two deep-water ports.
