Overview

Introduction

Idaho Falls, Idaho, in the southeastern part of the state, 210 mi/340 km east of Boise, is known primarily as a gateway to Yellowstone National Park.

The town hosts some festivals, such as the Idaho Falls Snake River Settlers Celebration (fireworks, barbecue, games—Fourth of July weekend) and the War Bonnet Roundup (a rodeo—August).

Sights in the surrounding area include an extinct cinder cone and volcanic crater at Twin Buttes and the town of St. Anthony, a popular starting point for fishing trips. The Grand Targhee ski resort is 60 mi/95 km east, just across the Idaho-Wyoming border. Blackfoot to the southwest is self-described as the Potato Capital of the World.
