Heraklion

Heraklion

Overview

Introduction

The birthplace of Hercules, King Midas, the Minotaur and countless other legends, Heraklion, the capital of Crete, retains the magic of its ancient roots while embracing modernity, reconciling both into a busy, cosmopolitan city.

Many visitors go to the island with the sole purpose of visiting the ruins of Knossos Palace, which is located right outside the city, but there are also large beaches (Amoudara and Paliokastro are among the best) and charming shopping.
