Bryan

Overview

Introduction

Texas A&M University is the main reason to visit Bryan and is the reason its sibling city College Station came into being. Located 150 mi/240 km south of Dallas, the university is the home of the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum, which contains documents and memorabilia about the 41st president of the U.S. Exhibits in the museum include reproductions of Bush's Air Force One and Camp David offices and an actual TBM Avenger aircraft like the one he flew in World War II.

Though it isn't a military school, A&M's Corps of Cadets give it a quasi-military bearing (service in the Corps was required for all students until the mid-1960s). You can learn about the group at the Sam Houston Sanders Corps of Cadets Center. Among its exhibits is the huge Metzger-Sanders Gun Collection. The Corps—and their rifles—made a brief but spectacular appearance at the beginning of the movie A Few Good Men.

Also in the area is the Messina Hof Wine Cellar, which offers tours, tastings and a restaurant. https://www.messinahof.com/bryan.
