La Cruz de Huanacaxtle

La Cruz de Huanacaxtle

Overview

Introduction

Overlooking the sparkling Banderas Bay, La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Mexico, a modest fishing village, has undergone a transformation while maintaining its traditions.

The Marina Riviera Nayarit at La Cruz—with a capacity for 400 yachts up to 400 ft/125 m long—and the La Cruz Yacht Club offer a 2-mi/3-km beachfront promenade, restaurants, a seafood market, luxury condominium residences and a boutique-hotel for yacht club and marina clientele. Sailing enthusiasts find the village very appealing. Colorful boating and yachting tournaments are held throughout the year.

Most people go to the 3-mi-/5-km-long beach to snorkel, swim or grab a bite to eat at one of many palapa fish restaurants run by locals. The streets of the small village also hold a few good restaurants run by German and American chefs, and there's an art gallery showing native Huichol yarn paintings. Otherwise, most activities revolve around the marina.
