Overview

Introduction

Locals and visitors flock to this town on the northern coast for its dramatic sunsets. The strategically located La Galera Fort, which sits atop a hill north of town, is an excellent place to see the show. You can also settle in with a cocktail at one of the restaurants along the eastern part of the beach to watch the day end in a spectacle of color. One of the island's loveliest, the bay there is filled with brightly painted fishing boats (note the "eyes" on the prow, to guide the fishermen safely home). About 15 mi/25 km northwest of Porlamar.
