Piestany

Piestany

Overview

Introduction

Surge et Ambula (rise and walk) is the motto inscribed on the town emblem, which depicts a figure of a man breaking his crutches. Although the local mineral waters and mud baths may not affect you in the same way, Piestany is still one of Slovakia's best-known spa resorts, and it's convenient to Bratislava, 45 mi/75 km southwest. In town, see the Church of St. Stephen, the beautiful art-nouveau Thermia Palace spa, and Barlolama, the statue of the crutch breaker. In summer, Piestany hosts a music festival. Folk festivals and colorful weddings are also held periodically in the nearby village of Krakoviany.
